Our Extended Reach Drilling (ERD) course is a dynamic, hands-on programme designed to equip delegates with the skills and knowledge needed to successfully drill and complete high-angle, complex ERD wells.

Through interactive presentations and field- proven procedures, participants can gain practical insights into managing the unique challenges of high-angle operations.

During the two-day course, candidates will explore the physics behind ERD, master effective hole cleaning and tripping practices, and learn how to identify and respond to downhole abnormalities with confidence.

Key topics covered:

  • High-angle v vertical wells
  • Torque and drag management
  • Twist-off avoidance and buckling
  • High-angle hole cleaning
  • Sweeps and hole clean-up
  • Tripping practices including short trips and pumping out of hole
  • Stuck pipe scenarios and back-reaming
  • Wellbore stability
  • Surge and swab effects
  • Connection practices
  • Hydraulics and equivalent circulating density (ECD) management
  • Drilling parameters and their impact on ECD and standpipe pressure (SPP)
  • Hole condition monitoring and cleaning strategies

As with all our training, this course can be tailored to meet client-specific needs.
