Behind every project, training course and solution is a team of experienced specialists whose knowledge helps deliver value for our clients. Our SME spotlight series shines a light on those individuals. In this feature, we meet Rickey Hendrix, based in our Houston office.

Name: Dr Rickey Hendrix PG

Role: Principal Well Engineer & Instructor

Years with Well Academy: 4 years

What does a typical workday look like for you? A typical work day for me includes discussing the reasoning behind and solutions to homework from the previous day, having lively interactions with course participants during lectures and discussions and then coaching and mentoring participants as they circulate gas kicks from a well virtually using drilling simulators.

What are your key tasks and responsibilities? My primary responsibilities include delivering drilling engineering, drilling operations and well control courses on a daily basis, as well as working behind the scenes to provide the resources required for each course. The preparation spans the full spectrum – from highly technical content creation to more mundane tasks such as cleaning the training rooms, maintaining equipment functionality, and, most importantly, making the coffee!

Who do you collaborate with most often? I routinely collaborate with drilling industry personnel representing global energy companies. These individuals have very diverse backgrounds, education, job functions and levels of experience. The challenge is to meet each course participant where they are while simultaneously addressing the unique needs of everyone in the class.

What do you enjoy most about your job, team or company culture? The thing that I enjoy most is getting to meet and interact with a new group of drilling industry professionals nearly every week. It keeps the experience fresh, interesting and rewarding.
